The sensitive story of Euskal Herria can only be made by art and culture. Basque art can have many languages, but it only has one language, ours: Basque.

In order to respond to the fact that the cultural offer in Basque is not as wide as we would like, the Geuretik Sortzen project was born: a national circuit that promotes the creation, production and dissemination of art and culture made entirely in Basque. Thanks to the first two editions, the works of more than 40 Basque creators from four artistic disciplines have reached different locations in the seven territories.

Cinema – Short films

To the four winds

Throughout the Basque Country, four filmmakers have gathered in this edition stories that reach the four winds. The Carranzana Raúl Barreras has curated In the meantime, then in the corners of the Baztan valley; the brothers Aitor and Izaro Arruti have created the short film Mintzo zen based on their experience in Elorrio; Olatz Ovejero has based his piece Ikusi Makusi in Larrabetzu; and Alba Lozano has based Zumaia to create the Aho Beltza. Four ways to imagine the Basque Country or four fresh winds.

Works of theater

THE SMALLEST PROMISE · Infinitudrama

Four friends united by fiction. Set the stage for them to flash. In the air, every promise ever made to each other. A secret friend brings a gift to this critical celebration among anonymous friends. With the audience holding their hands, or better, with their little finger, the actors embark on a journey of friendship. Before you start: get ready for singing and joy and, of course, get ready for disappointment.

AUNT TXIRRITA · What cultural ideas

The play proposes a journey from the Franco uprising of 1936, an exercise in collective memory: in the middle of a move, chance will unite two teenagers and their old aunt in the old family home. From box to box, they discover treasures and anecdotes full of secrets related to the life of their aunt. Teenagers won’t pay much attention to it at first, but they will gradually see how much these stories from the past are still alive.

FRANKOPOLEON · KulturarteCo.

2070. Year: The dual state of Francopoleon. What makes us Basque? Under whose supervision do they look at us, delimit us, mutate us, mutilate us or depilate us? How many languages do Basques speak? What Spanish do we speak? Where do we come from? How do we end up?

HOUSE · Mother Three

We are in a house of two hundred square meters. High ceilings, oak wood floors and mahogany doors. Here on the left is the main living room, next to the precarious work. Later on veste a smaller living room full of dreams that you will never get. Kitchen in front of you, connected to the dining room of the friends you forgot on the way. Two bathrooms, as in the house that his mother has sold, both equipped with bathtubs and nostalgia. All very bright, unlike your future. It has three balconies where you can see all the roofs of the city: Itsaso, Pello and Sebas. Our protagonists. Grandma in the bedroom, owner of this house, caretaker and prisoner. Enter to live. A unique opportunity.

TXONDOR SQUARE · Lampstands

Between smoke, wood and silence, the carboneros worked in the mountains for generations. Their almost extinct profession witnessed a humble existence with a deep connection to nature. Txondor Plaza wants to keep this memory alive through circus theater. A single performer gives life to the carbonero by recreating his last days in the forest; next to the smoke and breathing txondorra, his hut, his usual utensils… and the firefly sargo that surrounds him.

SOMETHING HAS ENTERED MY EYE · Imanol Epelde

We are, but we don’t know very well who. Building identity is not easy in an accelerated and globalized world. We are, but we don’t know very well where. We can be here and anywhere at the same time. We’re going, but we don’t know very well where. Not as an individual, as a people. What we cannot invent is the way we live in these changing times. SOMETHING HAS ENTERED MY EYE WITH UNORZ AND FIRMNESS, IT IS THE AUDIENCE THAT COMES TO SING AND TELL THESE TIMES. The show is a lyrics (with spoken word), a (electronic) song (created specifically), an audiovisual (projected on the screen).

TWO GLASSES ONE WATER · Square meters

Four people in the middle of a dance floor. Each one has a glass of water in his hand. The four are completely stagnant, while the DJ puts all the people around him to dance. This play is about the joy of the aftermath of abuse. The abuser steals the joy of a person who has been abused. Anyone who has been abused for any reason is questioned about their right to joy, even after being abused. We tell the story of four people trapped in the center of the dance floor, with depth and respect, but without saying it, in a cheerful way.

COLLAPSE · Jon Ander Urresti and Matxalen de Pedro

The three members of this advertising agency are capable of selling anything. Everything, even what you don’t need. Especially what you don’t need. They’ll throw you out and sell you a two-headed spoon saying you’ll eat faster. Or a rotating bed that will centrifuge the stress every night. Whatever it is. Cats for dogs and umbrellas for trees. People came to ask for blue wine in Rioja Alavesa after a campaign of them. But a last-minute incident turns the agency upside down. They only have to sell one thing: the desire not to buy more.

PHASE 01

Several municipalities have been selected throughout the Basque Country, taking into account the territorial balance. Likewise, creators or bodybuilders will be selected taking into account parity and multidisciplinarity. This election was held by public convocation in December 2024. On the other hand, a jury will select the creators who best adapt to these municipalities, taking into account criteria such as quality of work, adaptability, etc. In this third edition, the four cultural disciplines will be literature, comic, theater and cinema.

PHASE 02

throughout 2025, the creators will make creative stays in the localities assigned to them. There will be stays of up to three weeks, which can be done from January to September/October 2025. Creative scholarships, meals, travel, production and exhibition expenses will be covered, regardless of the amount of the creative scholarship.

PHASE 03

it will take place in 2026. The publication or presentation of works of art created by bodybuilders in various municipalities and the dissemination circuit are the most important requirements of this phase. In the field of theatre, the performances will be like any other theatrical performance. In the field of cinema, several short films will be presented in the municipalities, with the presence of one of the directors who has participated in it. In the field of literature, the presentation of the book will be made in the municipalities that have had a writer during their stay. In the field of comics, this publication will also be presented in the municipality to which it has been awarded and in any other municipality that wishes to do so. Workshops, colloquia and round tables will also be organized.

There will also be a travelling exhibition. This exhibition will show the exhibition and creative processes of Geuretik Sortuak. Stay in each municipality for 1-2 weeks.

The third edition of Geuretik Sortu is already underway. it will cover the years 2025 and 2026, with the participation of the creators and peoples listed below.
